I did a little painting for RAW's 5 year anniversary show in Manchester. If you're out there in the UK, u should go! All the profits are going to charity!

Also, I've been in Southern Maine for the last week and I tried to get some sketchbooking done since I've been slacking for most of the year. Here's the first spread thus far!

1) I'm trying to update more often but I'm just in an awkward time when I can't show things yet (but that's not that bad is it?). BUT I'm going to post tiny tidbits of things! :D

3) Here's a cool photo of GRRM looking at our new Game of Thrones 'zine! also in the photo is the lovely Kris Mukai (who made me a journal for our PUNK ROCK PIZZA CREW TOUR) and was huge in bringing the GoT 'zine to life.

ahhhhhhhhh! I know I haven't posted anything in AWHILE butttttttt more is coming soon I promise! I just needed to do this quickie too appease the drawing gods :D I really should've done an Andrés Iniesta drawing quite awhile ago as part of that Chip Shot series, but I didn't. A gentleman AND a baller, that one. The entire 'zine can now be seen over at my website!

I WAS TOO BUSY GRADUATING. I'm now the official owner of a BFA in Illustration! fingers crossed it helps! look it's us with our kawaii outfits! (l to r: meghan, julianna, me, heather, and abby!)

So many surprises today! First off, my first real piece came out (the one above). It's for Plan Adviser's section Hot Off the Presses and was AD'd by SooJin Buzelli. SooJin hires a TON of really really really good illustration so I definitely was happy to do this one!

ALSO, I got 5 (FIVE YEAH WOAH) pieces into American Illustration 30! suuuuuupppperrrrr stoked for real. O man, I'm so amp'd it's hard to type.

on the other side of the spectrum, SKOOL IS ENDING FOREVER. everything is coming down reaaaaal hard like. too many papers/finals/commencement shows to worry about for it to be anywhere near okay.

What does the future hold? Come June, I'm moving back up to NJ for a few months while I look for apartments in NY. Also, I need to rent out studio space. SO if you're in the city, and need a roommate or studiomate, hit me up! preferably in BRKLYN. holla atcha boi.

Julianna, Abby, and I will be running around the city on May 6th for SI Student opening. Pizza party all around.

Ambiguous Book Jacket Project

Another one for my Fantasy Art class. John Hendrix and Jaime Zollars created an assignment which had us make book covers for fake books with vague/mysterious titles. Mine was Citizen Of Gravity. I decided the book would probably be a series of light-hearted vignettes on "letting go". The mock-up image was totally stolen from the internet somewhere. yay google images.

The rainbow dog machine drawing from the last post is available for purchase through the Gallery Nucleus! it's only $50 and a portion goes towards a good cause (world wildlife fund)!

a few quick things! both are for shows at Gallery Nucleus in LA! w00000t. ok the first one is a 7"x5" drawing for their Power In Numbers show. I decided to draw a rainbow dog machine!

and the second one is for their upcoming Harry Potter show! cool idea? i think so. My take on it was obviously a quidditch match.

I've been hacking away at this book (glorified zine?) but I haven't really been posting much of it. AND I won't yet! but I will post some of these funny logos that'll be part of it :D If I can get my act together It'll be done by the time MoCCA hits.

We have 2 books so far! The first is Mitch's Art History thesis put into a half-letter format plus a fold-out poster. The second is my latest installment of my Knee Deep & Losing Sleep series. herro ery'body, long time no post! this is a quicker little piece that I did for Jaime Zollars' Fantasy Art class. we were supposed to take a fantasy art cliché and make it not suck. My subject was islands that were actually big turtles, thus trans-dimensional turtle island.

I also went to the Sequential/Uncommissioned Opening at the Society of Illustrators and it was purdy gewd. Met some new people as well as some kids from the internet that I'd been wanting to meet for awhile. I was way nervous during my speech since the place was super packed!

I have some cool projects in the works (like real people work) that will be unveiled soon enough ;D thanks for being so patient as I struggle to post more often!

Here is a project that I did last semester for my independent study. Awhile back I did packaging for a fictional craft brewery called Drunk Pup and I thought it might be neat to have a takeaway type item. That idea just kind of warped into these coasters which which were letterpressed by a local shop in NJ. I made 100 packs of them and sold at the MICA art market a few weeks ago. I have a few left if anyone feels inclined to purchase them.

I've been busy HARD CHILLIN' this break and it's been rather nice. Laura and I have spent the last week in New Jersey pretending to be productive. We aren't fooling anyone though. She added some new work to her website recently so everyone should take a peak! click here!

On Friday a few of us will be trouncing into the city for the Society of Illustrators 53 sequential/uncommissioned opening. If you're in the area you should check it out! there will be some cool work by the likes of Asaf Hanuka, Yuko Shimizu, Gary Taxali, Mark Todd, The Heads of State, Dice Tsutsumi, Martin Wittfooth, Kim Rosen, Brian Rea, Chris Buzelli and Leif Parsons (as well as yours truly). Anyone down for a pizza adventure afterwards? Also, I did find out that I am not the only current student to medal seeing as Sachin Teng totally pwn'd ery'one and won a gold. His stuff is A+

RADIOL LAB: Animal Minds

Long time no post people of internetz! This is my introductory piece to my first semester project in Senior Thesis. I'm illustrating episodes of WNYC's Radiolab and then designing them into a cool greatest hits type of cd/dvd package thing.

This episode was about animal minds and how and/or if we as humans can ever truly understand what other organisms on this planet think. This version is slightly different than the one I put up on flickr but I'm pretty sure this is the final one.

Hopefully I'll have a few more things to post by next week since it's midterms! (gahhhhh) In other news, I AM SO TIRED OMG WHY. I'm sure it's a combination of not getting enough sleep, my awful diet, stress, and departmental things! but alas, us seniors only have to float through MICA illustration purgatory for another semester and a half so we are much luckier than some! Also, here's a camera phone picture of my studio!

Thesis/Seminar with Dave Plunkert/Allan Comport: Thursday all day 4ever

Edel got a project in for the Washington Post that I also did drawings for. It's a dual book review of "Exploring Happiness" by Sissela Bok and "The Pain Chronicles" by Melanie Thernstrom. Here are my versions!

And with the start of the English Premier League underway, I did a portrait of the illustrious Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney; who is not doing so well at the moment. I'm so pumped for La Liga to start!

I went to Spain and Portugal, that was cool. Here are some cool highlight photos:

AHHH! lots of stuff to post!

1) I got back from Los Angeles yesterday morning after my adventure to the 6th installment of the Illustration Conference. I went to the last one and had a fun time, but this one was even better. I was on the volunteer staff along with a bunch of my pals and an assortment of kids from other schools. I met a bunch of people that I'd only known through the interwebz like Hannah and David. I re-met Nina and also met David Jien, whose work I completely adore.

Here's the promo 'zine that I made for ICON. keepin' it simple.

I also bought this neato Poketo wallet with a snazzy drawing by Mr. Will Bryant on it.

Big ups to Niv, Cam, Alex, Nina, Hannah, Dan, Babs, other Alex, Mollie, Craig, GEE-SHAWN and everyone else who made the trip a blast!

2) In other (VERY IMPORTANT) news, my NEW WEBSITE is up and running! thanks a ton to Mitchell for all the coding and taking payment in burritos. It's way snazzy! He has a blog post about all the work that went into it here!

3) I finished this alternate cd packaging for the band Algernon Cadwallader's "FUN" ep during last semester but I never got around to photographing it. I need to remake it thought since there are some icky parts.

4) I also got a new camera (canon rebel xs with some cool lenses) which I will be using extensively when I leave for SPAIN ON FRIDAY. yesssssssssssssssss I'm so pumped for BarTHelona!

herrrroooo everyone! i haven't updated in almost a month! eeeeeek

well junior year is coming to a close and that's super scary! only one more year until I have to be a real person.

This first piece was for Dan Krall's fashion class. According to Zach Hazard it's all the kinds of punk kids that you don't see in Baltimore.

this next piece was my final for my illustration concepts class with Rachel Salomon. It's about how the collective conciousness is going to be digitized.

this was a quickie for rachel's class too. it was about digital immortality.

I got 2 of my skateboards printed out! the colors are a little off and I can see the dot grain but overall I think they came out good! held up by my super awesome friend Emma!

Summer is coming up so fast! I'm taking Deep Ecology with Firmin DeBrabander. I'm volunteering at ICON6 in Pasadena with my dawgs Alex, Niv, Babs, Cam, some other MICA kids and a good chunk of the Pencil Factory crew (tho they're obviously not volunteering). You can find all of their links in the sidebar on the left! it's going to be a party. After that I'm interning for Edel Rodriguez which will also be a blast. After that I'm going to Spain with my family yayayayay!

The first piece is the last in my Filipino folklore series that I was doing for Allan Comport. The other 3 are a mock magazine campaign for the Vans Vault done for Dan Krall's fashion illustration class.

I was also nominated by the MICA Ill dept to have a chance at getting the Society of Illustrator's Zankel Scholarship. fingers crossed!

here are a few things from Joe Galbreath's class about self-publishing called "D.I.Y."(lulz) the first is a kids coloring book about monsters, the second is my previously mentioned mini-zine about asian cuties, and the third is this elaborate promo box that was kind of ridiculous because of the size requirement.

I'm currently working on a mini-mailer that includes some new postcards, printed envelopes, business cards (which have yet to arrive), and a fold 'em zine with some sketchbook stuff. The zine is still being worked out but this is the first draft.

also a slip sheet featuring a photo taken by Lauren with Emily's camera. there's the little name credit line down in the bottom right!

Here’s a super quick rundown of my fest schedule!

Friday:
Magrudergrind: a lot better than the last time I saw them! Maybe it’s because the sound at 10 car annoys me! Super heavy!

Iron Lung: so much win! It’s amazing that they can play that shit while singing!

Young Widows: don’t really listen to them but they were awesome! I liked their amp/light combo.

Coliseum: cool guitar sounds brahhhh. They also played dehumanize so I was happy.

A Wilhelm Scream: not as tight as I thought they were going to be but still super fun

The Menzingers: catchiest band ever. They also played a sick Billy Bragg cover.

The Ghost: good and old. I wished they played for half as long

Polar Bear Club: not much to say about them. Definitely one of the best sets I saw. Kids were going nuts.

Saturday:
Coffin Dancer: really wanted to see this band and they were solid. The vocals were kinda annoying at points thought.

Capsule: tech win. Also the dude has a black guitar head with an orange amp font. I dunno what that is but it was awesome.

Pulling Teeth: always win. Always. Super angry.

Pygmy Lush: so chill. Probably the tightest band I saw. Sometimes I wish they played their heavy stuff though

Cloak/Dagger: Meh but singer was wearing a muscle costume with henry rollins’ tattoos drawn on it.

D4: so much fun. So much beer on me. So many fat dudes.

Ringers: this band is breaking up and I am sad. One of the other best sets I saw.

North Lincoln: Also sad that I didn’t ever get into this band since they’re breaking up too. Super tight. Super catchy.

Good Luck: shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit so much noodling. Another best of fest set.

Whiskey & Co.: mitch and I needed to see some alt country. They were solid.

Drag the River: good but I wish they played with a full band instead of just 2 acoustic guitars.

Random band in house where the floor was going to collapse: they were entertaining but it was 238042319024089234890 degrees in that room.

Sunday:
Broadway Calls: this band used to be good. Not so much now.

Deep Sleep: a lot better than the last time I saw them. I like this band. Tony makes me lulz. Coulda been tighter though.

Comadre: so much fun. I like seeing this band. Got their split with Trainwreck, another quite crucial band.

Ampere: first time seeing them after years of listening. Happy I did. Really solid band. I decided to pick up the Sinaloa split on blue marbled vinyl.

Sadly, after this Mitchell and I had to leave to get back to Baltimore since we had the last of our midterms. The kids we were with ended up seeing Teenage Cool Kids, Religious as Fuck, and Vaccine.

We actually had really awesome food there too. the reggae cafe was quite tasty. free burrito day was good. and the Colombian hot dog tent at 2am was godly. Overall, an awesome experience.

Ted gave me this awesome brick of a sketchbook a little while ago and I'm just getting it started. working larger (large for me anyways) gives me a little bit more freedom. I'm liking it so far. I've been using it as place to "take notes" in during my single summer class.

I also got this sweet shirt from this awesome band called Black Breath. I saw them last Friday with Victims and they were mindblowingly awesome. I giggle at the demon woman with the eye-nipples and her male genitalia.

The first is this drawing/painting i've been working on for a while since i'm trying to see what happens when i spend a long time doing a piece instead of like 20 minutes. it's supposed to be done for this juried art show by this weekend since that's when the drop-off is, but I am thouroughly unsure of if it will get finished in time. the 2nd is this sketchbook page that i've been working on and off on. newly primed!

Hey everyone, I'm finally getting around to update this thing again. Last semester was hell and you have no idea how happy I am that it's over. Lot's of drama that made it very hard to get work done. I feel like my drawing skillz have worsened which is why I'll be taking 2 drawing classes next semester. Speaking of which here's my schedule for fall!

thursday: A Baroque Feast- Kim Anderson
friday: offfffffffffffff (but I'm currently signed up for DIY)

I think I'm going to try and go to Art Center in Pasadena for my Spring semester of this year. If anyone who goes there has any advice please tell me! I'm not sure what classes I'll be able to take but they'll probably be 300-400 levels? I also need to figure out where I'll be living since I don't think they have dorms. It should be nice to get out of Baltimore after the fall and focus on getting some hardcore work done.

Sooooooo this summer I'm interning for a few dudes at a little place called the pencil factory. It's basically a revamped warehouse in Brooklyn that used to be an actual pencil factory and there are like 6 floors with a wide array of creative companies. I'm working for a group of freelancers who share studio space most notably Ted, Josh, Sam, Grady, Chris, and Rachel. I'm hoping Frank Stockton makes an appearance sometime so I can keep being an illustration creepster. lol. My first day I was working with Josh (who's one of my favorite illustrators ever so I was mad nervous) and his studio-mates Niel and Alex and it was pretty shweet. If anything exciting happens I shall keep everyone posted!

and congrats to my dawg Cam for interning for Mr. James Jean.
